let's be clear...i am not a model. nor do i think i'll ever
consider myself one. even as i entertain the notion of taking on paid shoots, i'll never embrace the term. frankly speaking,
my physical limitations (and passionate love affair with food) will always put me well outside the confines of "model"
standards. more importantly, i just can't come to grips with the seemingly true stereotypes that come along with the label.
for good or bad, it simply isn't me. i consider myself an artist of many sorts. being positioned as one diminutive element
in the larger scheme of beautifully created photography is a way i contribute to making art.
at
shoots, you won't find me making tepid conversation about nails, fitness, hair, and make-up with perfectly kind, friendly,
and extremely talented models. even listening sometimes makes me feel as though brain cells are fighting for their
lives. if i'm not being shot myself, i'm enthralled in fascinating conversation about lines, shadows, and angles with anyone
from who i can learn. below is the stunning work of the real artists...the
photographers.
in terms of personal style, i prefer simple. clean. understated. b/w. perhaps down
the line i'll feel more comfortable exploring the high-end fashion realm of this industry. but as someone who doesn't wear
make-up and has intentionally kept a very simple, natural look for years...it will take me a bit of time to become accustomed
to all of that.
ultimately, what i am after is the beauty found in that which is simple. all too
often, people find sex to be inherently sexy. but i think that simplicity can sometimes be the sexiest of all.
